Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #70
Hey there, I hope you are having a great weekend. So in thinking about what I wanted to cover for some upcoming flash briefings, I realized that I’m getting a lot of the same types of questions and I thought, what better place to address these questions than on the flash briefing so that everybody can learn from these questions?
So one question that I get time and time again is why don’t the skills that are currently available in the United States show up in the Canadian Amazon skills store?
And it’s a big frustration for as Canadians, myself included. But here’s the bottom line and here’s the truth.
It’s quite simple, Amazon doesn’t control the third party skills in the sense that they’re not the ones producing them and so in order for a skill to show up in Canada, the person or the organization or the company that is developing the skill has to have an interest in launching in Canada.
Now you would think that these companies would launch their skills in Canada soon after they’d been launched in the States.
But the reality is, unfortunately for us, it doesn’t happen. Now with the recent launch of the Echo Spot in Canada.
This is now creating a new place in Canada where skills that have a video component are now compatible in Canada. You can actually use some of these.
The company that is developing the skill has to have an interest in launching in Canada.

So we are gradually seeing the skills come online now as the manufacturers decided to launch them in Canada.
Things that will control smart doorbells. So you can look at the camera from the doorbell on your spot and that sort of thing.
And very gradually, some companies are quicker to the mark here than others.
They are launching in Canada you know, some of them really more popular ones, I’m surprised they haven’t been launched in Canada yet.
I think the best thing that we can do about this is if there’s a particular skill that you want email or contact that company or that manufacturer and say that there’s a demand for this in Canada and hopefully that will, you know, get them to get a move on.
All right. Anyway, that’s the answer to the question and if you’ve got other questions that you want me to answer them on the flash briefing, send them my way any way you want, whether it’s through Twitter, through the Facebook community page, or on the website. Feel free and I will do my best to answer them. Have a great day. Talk to you tomorrow.
