Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #239

Alright, so I want to tell you about my first experience with voice shopping. And, to be honest, I was a little bit hesitant to do it. It kinda reminds me of when I first used my credit card online and I was a little bit hesitant, but I jumped in and I tried it out, and overall it was actually a very good experience. It made it a little too easy to buy things, but here’s the deal.

So my wife and I were thinking it’d be great to get one of these instant pots, and you know these are all the rage and so on. So, we decided, yeah, we’re going to get an instant pot, but I was a little bit apprehensive about just going online ordering it because I wasn’t sure what I ended up getting, what model and so on. And I’m the type of person as you’ve probably figured out, I like to do my research on things.

I really like to understand what I’m buying. So I thought, to test this out, I’m first going to do my research in advance, and then when I’m ready to buy it, I’m actually going to see if I can purchase it through Alexa and see what the experience is like. So that’s exactly what I did. I figured out which instant pot I wanted, and my wife and I looked it over.

We said, yeah, this is the model we want. And then I used my Spot to buy it because I wanted to see if there were some visual element to the purchasing experience. I still think that, you know, just purchasing by voice is really good if there’s something that really you don’t need to see if it’s routine stuff, I don’t know, paper towel, and that sort of stuff. When it comes to the instant pot, I want to make sure I was getting the right one.

Multimodal skills are excellent, because you’ve got the visual cues so I can see the product, but at the same time, I’m interfacing it through my voice, voice first.

So I asked Alexa on my Spot, you know, I said I want to purchase this instant pot. And, it was actually very neat the way it worked, because what it did was it gave me options of the top three instant pots, the most popular ones that are being sold, and as it gave me each option, it gave me the price, and it gave me a picture of it on the Spot.

So I think this is a great example of where multimodal skills are excellent, because you’ve got the visual cues so I can see the product, but at the same time, I’m interfacing it through my voice, voice first. So, it gave me the top three. I found the one that I wanted, and then I said purchase number, whatever it was, whether it was number one or number two, and that was it.

It was done. And so, it was a piece of cake. So try it out. I’d be curious to hear what your experiences are like and happy shopping. It’s a little bit too easy. You can get a little dangerous. I’m just giving you that heads up, but I enjoy and my instant pot showed up very, very soon. And just for the record, we love the instant pot.

We’re doing some great, great cooking with it. So, if you got one, you know what I’m talking about. Enjoy. Happy shopping.
