Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #90
So here’s a little fun you can have with Alexa this weekend. I’ve been playing around a little bit with basically facts to see how much Alexa actually knows.
And what I discovered is that she knows a fair bit when it comes to things about, you know, population of cities and provinces in the country, the age of various famous people and celebrities asking Alexa about who people are and so forth.
I’ll give you some examples. I’ve asked Alexa, you know, what’s the population of Canada?
What’s the population of British Columbia? I have asked her things like who is Wayne Gretzky?
How old is Wayne Gretzky? Who is Pierre Trudeau? How tall is the CN tower?
And for all of those questions, she did a really good job of answering them.
The other thing that I was playing around with was to see how much does she know about local businesses.
She’s getting better and better at giving local information.
For example, could I ask Alexa, “where’s the nearest best buy?” Could I ask Alexa, “what time is Canadian tire open until?”, and to my surprise, actually she was really good.
I asked her where the closest best buy was, and she told me that the closest best buy was 3.4 kilometers away on a particular street.
And she told me the time that it’s open until, and same thing with Canadian tire. So she’s getting better and better at giving local information to us.
So the next time you need to run out somewhere, ask her where you need to go. Ask her what time it’s open until, and I think you might be pleasantly surprised.

2. Click on “Add Content” and search for “Voice in Canada”.
3. Click on “Voice in Canada” and the Enable button.
