Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #143

Hey there, how are you doing? Today I want to talk about what to do if you are traveling and you want to travel with Alexa.

This actually comes from an email that I got from Brian Sweden and, he left her a view on Amazon previously about the flash briefing.

And I’ll just reiterate my appreciation for that. It was a great review and I’m really appreciative of that, of course.

But today Brian sent in a question and he asked about what do you do if you’re traveling and you want to take Alexa with you and how does that work?

How does it connect? Does it connect back to your home Wifi when you get home? Can you control things from when you’re away?

Well, here’s the good news, Brian and everybody else. It actually works really, really well.

So I was recently traveling for a conference and I took Alexa with me cause I actually did a little bit of a demo with Alexa.

And the way I did that was, well, first of all, I took my smallest device that I have the Echo Dot. You could take an Echo, the regular Echo, but it’s probably easy to travel with the Echo Dot.

Just so you know, I did have it in my carry on luggage. There were, no issues at all when I took that through a security.

I had a battery pack attached to it. You can get an assortment of battery packs for Alexa if you need that.

You don’t necessarily need to have a battery pack. I particularly just wanted to have one because I was giving a demo at a conference and I want it to have it up on stage with me.

You don’t necessarily need to have a battery pack.

Travelling with Alexa

But you don’t need a battery pack. Of course, you can plug it into wherever you’re going, whether it’s your hotel or whatever.

When you get to where you need to be, you, of course, have to connect it to that WiFi source, wherever that is.

So typically the way you would do that is, you would set it up the way you set it up at home. You would just go into the settings and choose a new WiFi network.

It’s very straight forward. It’s just the same way you would have set it up at back at home.

The neat thing is once you’re on WiFi, you are still attached to your own Amazon account, which means that you still have all your functionality of that Amazon account.

So yes, you can control your smart home lights from when you were away. Yes, you can drop in on your family by using the drop in feature.

You can do all of that sort of stuff and you can ask Alexa all the things that you normally would ask when you’re traveling.

The nice thing about it is that when you do get home, it actually connects very easily with your WiFi at home.

You don’t have to do anything. It just wants it. Once it has already been paired to your WiFi at home, you enter your house when you get home and it does it automatically.

You plug it in and you’re good to go. So I think it’s great. And Brian, that was a great question. Thanks very much.

If any of you listeners have any other questions, I’d love to answer them here on the flash briefing. I think it’s great because I can really then address specifically what’s on your mind.

And that’s the goal of this, to help you out the best that I can. So thanks, Brian. Keep those questions coming and, safe travels.

And next time you’re traveling with Alexa, she makes a good travel companion. Alright, take care.
