I’m Teri Fisher, creator of Alexa in Canada. If you want to learn about how you can get the most out of Amazon Alexa devices, specifically for Canadians but don’t know where to start, this page is for you.

My way of helping you is simple: I try different things, share what I learn, be honest about what works and what doesn’t, make it as simple as possible, and have some fun doing it! That’s what I’m all about, and that’s what Alexa in Canada is all about.

Alexa.

WHO IS SHE?

Alexa is a voice-controlled, intelligent, digital, personal assistant developed by Amazon.

Alexa is a voice-controlled, intelligent, digital, personal assistant developed by Amazon and first released in November 2014.

Alexa is my personal digital assistant… and your personal digital assistant. She is kind of like Siri, but better.

The thing that makes her really stand out amongst her “peers” (i.e. Siri, Cortana, and Google Assistant) is the fact that she has many more skills than the others. This is because Amazon has allowed independent developers (within certain guidelines) to create new skills for Alexa, making her progressively more intelligent every day.

Why is this important?

Because when an assistant can perform thousands of different functions, simply at the sound of our voices, this saves us time.

We live more organized, stress-free, enjoyable lives. Thank you, Alexa!

How Does Alexa Work?

Alexa.

WHERE IS SHE?

Alexa can be found in almost every type of electronic device.

When Alexa was first introduced to the world in 2014, she was available only in Amazon Echo wi-fi Intelligent speakers, such the Amazon Echo and Amazon Echo Dot.

Now the line of Amazon smart devices has increased and Alexa can be found in almost every type of electronic device.

She can now be found in smart home hubs, lighting, switches, dimmers, outlets, locks, cameras, home security systems, heating and cooling devices, and even some cars. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

WHAT CAN SHE DO?

Alexa’s got skills!

A better question is, “What can’t she do?”

Alexa’s got skills!

Remember that developers are constantly creating new skills for Alexa. It’s sort of the equivalent of apps that Alexa can use, only much more user-friendly. Well, with each new skill that is created, Alexa can do something else.

There are now literally thousands of things that Alexa can do. Some of the most common skills include music playback, making to-do lists, setting alarms, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks, telling jokes, playing games, controlling your home, and providing weather, traffic, and other real time information, such as the news, but it doesn’t stop there.

How about reserving a car for you? Or maybe providing a soundtrack for a book that you are reading aloud? What about reciting a recipe to you while you are cooking?
