Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #242
Alright, so today I’ve got a little bit of news for you and basically a feature that you can enable on Alexa. And, I need to give a shout out to Rick Fisher, who’s actually no relation to me. At least I don’t think he is. Wouldn’t that be weird if we were related, Rick? Anyway, Rick writes in and says, “Teri, I’m not sure if you know, but SiriusXM is now available in Canada.
I’ve used the skill for a couple of days and so far it is flawless. It also works with groups so I can listen throughout the house. I appreciate all your efforts. Great site and podcast” Thanks, Rick. Hey Rick, Thank you for that email and bringing it to my attention. So I did a little bit of looking into this, and what I discovered is that Sirius XM is not a skill per se, but it is one of the music providers that you can enable through your Alexa app.
And so, if you are a subscriber to Sirius, you can actually go into your menu, and you click on “music and books” and under “music” you will see different services that you can subscribe to.
What I discovered is that Sirius XM is not a skill per se, but it is one of the music providers that you can enable through your Alexa app.

And so now the list includes, of course, Amazon Music, Deezer, Gimme, Sirius XM, Spotify, and TuneIn, and any one of these that you have a subscription to, you can enable, and then, you have the option of actually making some of these your default music player. And then if you ask for music through Alexa, you get your music or your station, et cetera, through those services.
So, hey, awesome. Thanks, Rick for bringing it to my attention. Stuff is changing so fast with Alexa and even with the app, there are things changing so quickly that it’s sometimes really hard to keep up with it. And I do my best to bring you all the news and even sometimes, things fall through the cracks.
So if you find something that’s really cool, something that you think the community needs to know, send it my way and just like I did today, I will make sure to bring it to everybody’s attention.
Okay. So thanks, Rick. Hope we have a great day, and I’ll talk to you later. I’m not sure my voice just cracked, but anyway, that’s the way it goes. Talk to you later.
