Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #287
Hey there. Hope you are doing well and you are having a fantastic weekend. As you know, on Sundays I’d like to answer questions from the community. And today I’ve chosen a question from our Facebook community. And by the way, if you’re not a member of the community, feel free to join. You just go to AlexainCanada.ca/Community, and there’ll be a direct link to the Alexa in Canada Facebook group.
So, the question that I want to answer today is from Sue Bishop, and, she says, “Every once in a while my lights flash off and on about 15 times, then I think everything settles down for several months. Then it starts again. It doesn’t matter if it’s day or night. It will sometimes wake me up. Does anyone else experienced this?”
Well, Sue, I have an idea, and I don’t know if this is going to actually be what’s going on in your case or not, but, I wanted to throw out some ideas to you because I have experienced this as well. And, for me, it’s because with these particular lights that are flashing, they are Philips Hue Lights, and they are the colored ones, and I’ve installed them into the light fixture, which is then controlled by a regular light switch, but it does have a dimmer on it, so it’s not a smart light switch.
It’s a regular light switch with a dimmer. And, I was hoping that I wouldn’t run into any problems, but Philips Hue does state that these lights are not necessarily ideal. They’re not necessarily compatible with dimmer switches.
… with these particular lights that are flashing, they are Philips Hue Lights, and they are the colored ones…

And so, what I’ve noticed is that the lights will sometimes flash on and off. And I believe that happens even more if my dimmer is not fully at 100% in terms of the brightness. So, what I’m wondering, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re flashing because you’re using some type of light bulb that is with a dimmer switch and they’re not necessarily compatible.
And so sometimes there’s just not a voltage going through the light bulb because the dimmer is down. So, something to experiment with. And, I’d be very happy if you sent me a message through Facebook or through Twitter, or however you can get in touch with me because I’d be interested to know if this is what is going on with you.
So there are my thoughts. I hope that’s helpful and I look forward to hearing back from you. Okay. Take care.
