Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #266
Hello and, it’s Remembrance Day, November 11th. And, before we get onto the topic of the flash briefing, I just want to say, I hope that you are observing Remembered State in whatever way is meaningful for you; and that you, and we all, take time to remember those that did lose their lives in, you know, in the line of duty for us to have the benefits of living in today’s society. So, however, that’s meaningful for you. I hope you do take some time to observe. Now, for today, I want to tackle a question that was asked in our Facebook community group.
And again, you can always access that at AlexaInCanada.ca/Community. And, the person that asked this question was, and I hope I get the pronunciation right here, apologies because I’ll do my best, Teisham Heejin Un. And the question is essentially; “Is there a way to get these skills that are available in the United States, but still have Canadian content on your Alexa device?” Well, the answer, unfortunately, Teisham is quite simple, and the answer right now is, “No” Each of the countries do have their own independent apps, and this is really dependent on the individual or the third party developers that are creating those apps, or skills, as I should more correctly call them.
So, if a developer decides to create a skill in the United States, but does not create that skill in Canada, we’re out of luck. You can always choose to make your location in the United States, which is what you’ve done, but then you do lose the Canadian content, and unfortunately, there’s just no way around it right now. That’s the way the system is set up. So, you have to make a decision. You either want the Canadian content and you likely will be limited in some of the skills that you have, or you get the full breadth of the skills that are available in the United States, but you’re going to have some limitations in terms of the Canadian content.

If you do want to check that out, anybody that’s listening, they decide they want to maybe try changing the location. You could always go to the website, AlexaInCanada.ca/Faq and if you scroll down, you’ll see I’ve got a couple of Faqs about how do you change your account from Canada to US Amazon or vice versa. So, I hope that helps. That probably wasn’t the answer that you’re looking for, but that’s the way its currently set up. And, thank you very much for the question, and I look forward to getting more questions so that I can answer another one next week. Have a great week. Talk to you soon.
