Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #273
Alright, happy Sunday. It’s Teri here. And, on Sundays, I like to answer a question from the community. So this is a question that I received from somebody anonymous, but I thought it was a great question, and the beauty of the answer for this one is that my daughter helped me to discover the answer to this. And so the question is; this person has an Echo Spot, you know, the little small one with the screen, by their bed. And, when they’re going to bed, and they’ve got their lights turned on, they want to turn off their lights, but they don’t want to wake up their partner.
So, how do they do that using Alexa without waking up their partner. Well at times I’ve wondered the same thing. So my wife’s asleep, and I’m up, and then I want to go to sleep, and I want to turn off the lights, and I want to say, “Alexa, turn off the lights”, but I don’t want to wake her up.
On the Spot, you simply swipe down from the top, and you have an option there, to turn off the lights.

What do I do? Well, I happened to mention this to my daughter, and she pointed out to me, that on the Spot, you simply swipe down from the top, and you have an option there, to turn off the lights. In fact, you have a number of different options of things that you can control when you swipe down on the Spot. I had no idea that you could do this. Obviously, it’s a voice first device. The primary user interface is voice, but in situations like this, where you don’t want to have to use your voice, because you don’t want to wake someone up, or some other circumstances, it’s great.
You can actually just swipe down, and there you go. So that’s how you do it. If you want to control certain things with your Spot, you can just simply swipe down and push on the screen, and you don’t have to use your voice at all. So there you go. Hope that little tidbit helps, and I will talk to you tomorrow. Take care. Bye Bye.
