Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #203

Hello, hope you are doing well on this Sunday. As you know, I’m going to be doing my best to bring questions from the community to the flash briefing on Sundays. And, one of these questions today comes from somebody by the name of Joseph T. And he submitted this question through the Alexa in Canada community Facebook page.

And by the way, if you’re not a member of that, and you’re Canadian, and you want to join the group, you can always go to AlexainCanada.ca/Community and then you can join our community.

Anyway, that aside. The question that he asked in the community was, “Has anyone purchased an Amazon Alexa for their loved one or for a senior? Are any seniors currently using one? I’m looking to learn more about how Alexa can benefit the elderly and would love to learn more”

Well, first of all, we got a great response from somebody by the name of Sandra, and she said she’s a senior and she set up her Echoes to remind her to take medications, appointments, keep grocery lists, voice control for lights, timers and that sort of thing.

She says she has some flash briefings, Voice in Canada, this very flash briefing, so thanks Sandra for listening. CBC News and local weather.

She’s a senior and she set up her Echoes to remind her to take medications, appointments, keep grocery lists, voice control for lights, timers and that sort of thing.

Question: Alexa and Seniors?

She enjoys being able to play music and she loves the comfort of being able to call her family members and loved ones. So, that’s great and that’s a perfect example of how many seniors are using these Echo devices.

There’s a lot of research, a lot of development going on, particularly also in the healthcare space and seniors, in terms of things that seniors can use the Echos for. I personally gave an Echo to my mother as well, who lives alone and she’s really enjoying it. It’s actually a form of companionship, believe it or not.

And, there have been studies that show that just having an Echo device allows a senior to feel like they have someone in their home and to talk to instead of just being by themselves and not actually speaking any words throughout the day.

So it’s really interesting. Anyway, so if you’ve got any other perspectives on that, please join our Facebook page, our group, and comment on the post. Thanks very much for the question and I will talk to you again tomorrow.
