Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #215
So here’s a very neat story that I came across and it has to do with how Alexa is becoming, even more, user-friendly when it comes to the visual side of audio searches. So for those of you that have an Echo Spot or maybe even an Echo Show, if you’ve got one in the states or if you’re listening in the United States, Getty Images just announced that they are starting a partnership with Amazon that will allow the Getty Images from their website, from their collection, they have award-winning collections of sports, news, entertainment, creative images, and so on.
And they’ve created a partnership with Amazon now, in such that when you ask a question and you have one of these video Alexa devices, it will show an image from the Getty library of images. So, there was a statement made by the senior vice president of Getty Images.
He says, “Our premier collection of editorial, creative and archival content is a natural fit for Amazon’s Echo products, bringing best in class visuals to Echo users. So that’s pretty cool. And they give a couple of examples.
So if you asked, “Alexa, who won the best actress at tonight’s Academy Awards” or “Alexa, what is the capital of Uruguay?”
I think this is a really neat way to take voice but also incorporate some visual images and give you a multimodal experience.

Alexa will, of course, respond with a statement, but you will also get the most up to date premier imagery of the winner from the red carpet or stunning photos from the capital of Uruguay. So, it really brings the photos to the content that you want at that moment through voice. So, I think this is very cool.
I’m sure that there’ll be lots of other similar things coming down the pipe from Alexa and from Amazon, but I think this is a really neat way to take voice but also incorporate some visual images and give you a multimodal experience.
So, when that’s actually coming online, don’t know, but it is a partnership, a formal partnership that has been announced and we’ll wait and see when that comes online. Alright. Talk to you tomorrow.
