Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #243
So today I’ve got some really interesting stats on Canadians and how Canadians are adopting smart speakers, and it’s quite, quite remarkable. There is a consulting and advisory firm called Strategy Analytics and they basically focus on trends and data with modern technologies, things like smart speakers, but other things as well.
And, what they’ve done is, they’ve gone in, and they’ve done some research and looked at how Canadians are adopting smart speakers. And, it’s very, very interesting. What they have reported was that, as of the second quarter of this year, they said that 5 to 6 percent of Canadian households had at least one digital assistant in it.
And my household too, we’ve got many. The firm estimates that the penetration rate will rise to about 8% by the end of the year. They estimate that there will be around $1.7 Million smart speakers in Canada by the end of this year.
And that’s a huge jump when you compare it to about 200,000 to 300,000 that had shipped to Canada last year. So, if you’re thinking two to 300,000 and we’re up to 1.7 Million, that’s an increase of what, at least, five, six, seven times, something like that, depending on how you break down the numbers.

Very fascinating. They also said that like globally there’s $11.7 million smart speakers that were shipped in just the second quarter of 2018, making it at least a billion dollars in revenue.
