Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #246
Alright, so here is a very, very interesting story. As you know, there is a serious competition heating up here between Amazon and Google as far as smart assistants go, of course with Alexa and Google assistant.
There are other players in this market as well, but they’re not at the forefront like Amazon and Google, things like Apple Siri, Microsoft Cortana, Samsung Bixby, so there are certainly other ones, but one of the things that Amazon has been struggling with, is getting the assistant on a mobile device, because obviously Apple has the iPhone and they’ve got Siri on there.
Google and Samsung, they have the Android operating system that they work off of, and they have their Google Assistant, and Bixby to a lesser degree. So, they are all on the mobile devices already.
Amazon has an app that you can install on your mobile device, but it’s not native. And so this is really interesting. Remember back in the day, those Blackberry devices, they’re still around.
They’re used for business, for enterprise, for security. Well, a new story recently came out that says that Blackberry is now working with Amazon on Alexa device for the enterprise.
This is very interesting and I think it’s a smart move on Amazon’s part because it’s a way for them to natively get Alexa into a smart mobile phone.

This is very interesting and I think it’s a smart move on Amazon’s part because it’s a way for them to natively get Alexa into a smart mobile phone. And so, the CEO of Blackberry, John Chen said at a keynote presentation that Blackberry and Amazon, were collaborating on frictionless workflows, and, he said that the Amazon Echo and the Google home devices at home are an extremely natural input, and we believe that’s the way the world is going.
And, he confirmed that there is a partnership going on between Amazon and Blackberry to create a Blackberry Alexa device. And, the timeline for this. He says that it will be out in the first quarter of 2019.
So this is very interesting. I’m very, very, curious to see what this will look like, how this will work and even more importantly, what the reaction will be like in the market to having a mobile device that has Alexa built in.
So, that’s a little bit of news for today. If you’ve got any comments on that, I’d love to hear your comments. Just send them my way through the website or through Twitter. I’m at @DrTeriFisher, and, what do you think? Is that something that you’re going to be interested in getting? Let me know.
