Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #428

Hey there. Hope you are having a great day. It’s Teri here with your flash briefing. And, if you’ve been following the voice technology scene closely in the last week or two, you’ll know that there was recently a conference called the Voice of the Car.

And, at that conference, Amazon was there, and they gave some more information about the Amazon Echo Auto device that is in production. It’s not released yet. In fact, it’s only by invitation, currently in the United States.

It’s not here in Canada, but I thought I’d share this story with you because I think it’s quite interesting. What Amazon said publicly, is that, for this device, which is basically going to bring Alexa into your car, it’s a small little device that you can plug in your car, what they’ve said is that there is going to be an offline mode, so that you actually do not need to connect with the cloud for all of the features that you may want to have available to you when you’re driving your car.

Which is very interesting, because if you imagine the times that you may not have a good Wi-Fi signal or a good cell signal, that could be quite common. It could be, for example, you’re in a parking garage.

You actually do not need to connect with the cloud for all of the features.

Amazon Auto to Have Offline Mode

It could be that you’re out driving on a country road where you are nowhere near civilization, and being able to have some access to at least some voice features without needing basically the Internet, is a really, really great thing.

So I think this is very smart. They didn’t say too much more about this, but I want it to share that with you because I thought it’s an interesting way, it’s a different shift, that Amazon is going with these Alexa devices, in that, yes, you are actually going to be able to access some functions without the Internet.

Alright? So there you go. I’ll keep you posted on what I hear about that. I do want to give another shout out to somebody else that left a review. This shout out goes out to Keith R. Keith left a review, five stars of this flash briefing.

He wrote, “Essential Alexa skill. If you own an Amazon Alexa device, add this skill to your flash briefing. Loads of useful information.” Thanks so much, Keith. I really appreciate the time you took to write that review, and I’m glad that you are finding it useful.

And if you the listener would like to leave a review, you just go to VoiceinCanada.ca, hit the red button, and you’re there. Alright? I will talk to you again tomorrow.
