Alright, it’s Teri here. Hope you’re having a great day. Today is December 6 and here is your flash briefing. Today, I want to tell you a little bit about the third quarter of 2018 and some of the trends that we’re seeing in smart speakers and specifically with Alexa. You may know that earlier this year Google had actually overtaken Amazon as far as the sale of smart speakers, but for the third quarter, Amazon is back on top.
In fact, for this third quarter, so from July to September, Amazon sold 6.3 Million Echo devices. It’s just crazy. And, just to put that in perspective of the trend in terms of what we are seeing with smart speakers overall. And Amazon is making up the largest proportion of that during this third quarter, year on year.
It’s just incredible the way this market is going, and, where technology is going with these smart speakers, and how quickly it’s catching on.
So, last year’s third quarter of smart speakers versus this year’s third quarter of smart speaker sales, this year had a growth rate of 137%. So more than doubled. Last year, the total sales were $8.3 Million. And this year, 19.7 Million smart speakers. So, it’s just incredible the way this market is going, and, where technology is going with these smart speakers, and how quickly it’s catching on.
