Hello, there today. I’ve got some really, really interesting news for you about Alexa. If you use your device to obtain information and most of us are using it to obtain some information, but specifically if you use it for health-related information, then you know that you can ask Alexa for some first aid tips, or diagnostic tips, or common questions about certain diseases, and Alexa can certainly tell you those.
The reason for that is because it’s a one-way communication when it comes to that information, meaning you’re not actually giving Alexa any of your personal health information.
The reason you cannot do that, at least as of right now, is because the device had not been, at least in the United States, HIPAA-Compliant. Now the big news here, this is actually huge, huge news.
This is a big, big story, is that just in the last week or so, Amazon publicly announced that at least in the United States, there is now a trial version, that certain companies have access to, that allows Alexa to be HIPAA-Compliant.
What does that mean? It means that now Alexa is starting to become a medical device. This is incredible, because now just getting those superficial answers to questions that you may have about your healthcare or health-related questions, Alexa is going to be able to start collecting your personal health information because it now follows these regulations.

And what that means, is that Alexa is going to become, essentially, a health care assistant for you. Maybe it’s going to help you with your medications. It’s going to help you to schedule doctor’s appointments.
It’s going to give you diagnostic advice. It’s going to help you in treating your chronic illnesses, like diabetes. Now, remember, this is early. This is only an invitation-only. It’s a Beta version and it’s only the United States, but this is such a big story that I wanted to let you know about it.
This really is one of the biggest stories to go public with regards to Alexa in quite some time. So, I’m very excited about this. I actually did our roundup post about this on my other podcast. VoiceFirstHealth.com/34.
