Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #374
Alright, it’s Teri here and today I have a tip for you. Now, this may or may not have actually occurred in my house, it’s for you to decide, but here’s the deal. Have you ever slept through your alarm clock? I have never done that.
I’m just going on the record to say I’ve never ever done that. Ever, ever. Even if my wife says otherwise, but here’s the thing. I use Alexa now as my alarm clock and when I go to bed at night, I say, “Alexa set my alarm for 6 AM.
And sure enough, the next morning, Alexa wakes me up at 6 AM, and the next thing, of course, that I do is I say, “Alexa, stop” And, after that, I may or may not fall back to sleep. And, I was trying to think, is there a way that I can prevent this hypothetical situation from happening?
And it turns out, I just discovered that there is, and it’s a very, very simple command, and maybe you already know this, and if you do, you’re way ahead of me. But here’s the deal.
When Alexa sets off the alarm, you simply say, “Alexa, snooze”, and then, Alexa will sound the alarm again nine minutes later. And what’s actually interesting is after you say snooze, if you then say, “Alexa, cancel the alarm”, it’ll actually say, “Canceling the 6 AM alarm” So it’s actually canceling the original time, which is kind of neat.
So, there you go. That’s my tip for you. If it helps you to not sleep through your alarm clock, even if it helps one person, then I’ve done my mission. Okay. Try it out. Now, I want to give a shout out to the latest person, of course, that left me a five-star review on the flash briefing, Amazon Alexa skill store.
If it helps you to not sleep through your alarm clock, even if it helps one person, then I’ve done my mission.

This one is from Ann and Howard Thaw, I hope I pronounced your name right. Five stars and they write, “Amazon support should be referring to your site” Well, thank you for that. I really appreciate that.
They go on to write, “Your briefings are extremely valuable. If I had only discovered the content on your site earlier, you would have saved me several hours on the phone with Amazon support trying to find out why I can add events to my calendar, but can’t delete them.
Despite their best efforts, the Amazon teams in both Canada and the USA seem oblivious to the fact that certain Alexa commands and features are not yet available in Canada.
Deleting and moving events are two good examples. Another is the ability to integrate email into calendar invitations. Keep sharing your valuable tips, tricks, and traps. And if when you see the valuable commands coming to Canada, keep us informed”
Well, Ann and Howard, again, what can I say? Thank you for taking some significant amount of time to write that review. That’s a lengthy review and I really, really do appreciate that. So, thank you very much. I love everything you wrote.
That’s what I’m trying to do and I really appreciate it. If anybody else would like to leave a review, again, they’re very much appreciated, of course. It’s the biggest compliment that you can pay me.
And, it’s really easy to do that. You just go to VoiceinCanada.ca. You click on the red button in the middle, leave a review, and it’s that simple. Okay? Hope you’re having a wonderful day and I will talk to you again very soon. Take care.
