Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #267
Hey there, it’s Teri here with your flash briefing for Monday. And, I’ve got some interesting news for you today. As you know, there is the Alexa app that goes along with using our Echo devices, and, Amazon just released quite a large update. So first of all, what does the update do? Well, it actually brings in a whole bunch of new features, and I’m going to be speaking about these different features over the next week or so in the flash briefing.
So make sure you’ve subscribed and you’re staying tuned to it, but what you will notice first of all, well, the first thing you need to do is you need to update your app, because you actually have to download the latest version of the app for your Alexa device. And then, once you do that, you will know that you have the latest version because the actual homepage of the app now looks completely different.
It’s a much more user-friendly in my opinion. The first thing that you can see, assuming you’ve got your location settings set up correctly, is you get personalized weather to your neighborhood. In my case, I can see that it has my particular neighborhood. It tells me what the weather is in the afternoon, in the evening, at night, and so on.
And then it’s actually got a number of cards that I can swipe through, so it’s got some cards that make some recommendations of some skills that I might find interesting.
You may have heard the saying, “Under promise and over deliver”, and I think that’s really what Amazon is doing here.

There is a specific card about commands that I can try saying to Alexa. I’ve got a card specifically about my list so they’re easily accessible, and I’ve got a card for my music. And so, what they’re doing is they’re making this app over time, more and more user-friendly, and providing more interesting, and more relevant information at a quick glance when you open your app.
So I think that’s great. One of the interesting things to me is that Amazon really doesn’t announce when they make these updates, and we just sort of discover them. And I think that’s actually purposely some of their strategies. You may have heard the saying, “Under promise and over deliver”, and I think that’s really what Amazon is doing here.
They don’t really promise a whole lot, but yet they continue to surprise us with these updates, and then when we find them, “Wow!” It’s a sense of delight, it’s wonderful. It’s like, “Wow!, that’s really cool. I can do that now” Anyway, check it out. There are lots to play around with, and I’ll be talking about some of the other specific updates to this app in the next couple of flash briefings. So make sure you’re staying tuned. Talk to you soon.
