Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #22
Okay, so here’s the deal today with Alexa. As you may have noticed, I’ve been referring to, I don’t want to say the name because I want to trick your devices, but I’ve been referring to her as “Lexi” recently.
And the reason for that is because I’ve been getting some feedback and I’ve tested it out myself that during the podcast and during the flash briefings when I’ve been saying that word, you know, Alexa, it has triggered the device and it causes the devices to pause.
And I’d prefer not to have to do that because I don’t want everything to be pausing every time I’m speaking.
So what I did was I went on to our Facebook community group, by the way, if you haven’t joined our group there, you can join @AlexainCanada.ca/Community and I ran a poll and I explained this problem and I said, I need some input.
I didn’t want to use Echo because that’s one of the wake words that you potentially could choose.
“What should I refer to Alexa as when I’m speaking?” and we had lots of different ideas that came up in this poll.
And I’ll read you some of the ideas. So there was “Lexy”, there was “Echo”, there was “Allie”, you know who “A” “She who must not be named” “Lex”, “Madam A”, “Dot”, “Amazon”, “Alexandra” and “Amy”.
And I mean there’s lots of great, great ideas there, but because it’s a poll, I could see what was the most popular and by and large, “Lexy” was the most popular one actually by quite a lot “Echo” was in second.
But I didn’t want to use Echo because that’s one of the wake words that you potentially could choose for your device and then you run into the same problem.
So I’ve settled on “Lexi” for now. We’ll see how it goes. If you don’t like it, let me know. If you love it, let me know and we’ll see.
I can’t promise that I’m going to make everybody happy, but you know, this is what we’re going to go with. I’m going to go with Lexi for now.
So that’s how the device is going to be referred to in the flash briefing and the podcast and there you go. So that’s why she is now “Lexi”.

Listen on your Echo Device! Easy as 1-2-3!
1. Open your Alexa app and click on the Menu button > Settings > Flash Briefing.
2. Click on “Add Content” and search for “Voice in Canada”.
3. Click on “Voice in Canada” and the Enable button.
