Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #17
Hello and happy Wednesday, today I want to talk about a specific skill and this is the first skill that I’m aware of that is a truly Canadian skill that has to do with healthcare and this is going to apply to people in Alberta.
Now, unfortunately, this doesn’t apply to me because I’m in BC, but I thought it was just a really cool skill because of what it does.
And I imagine it won’t be long before we see this kind of skill across the country.
Basically the skill is just called the AHS for Alberta health services and what it does is it taps into the database of wait times for the emergency rooms across the province.
So AHS is the name of the provincial health service in Alberta and what this does is when you enable the skill, you can then ask Alexa for what the wait times are the different emergency departments.
It taps into the database of wait times for the emergency rooms across the province.

So some of the things that you can say, you can say, you know, “ask for the emergency department wait times”.
You can say, you know,”ask for the emergency department wait times in a particular city” Suttas Edmonton or Calgary and so on.
I’m trying my best to avoid saying the “A” word here as I say this. So I’m probably going to end up using Alexa just as an aside here.
Anyway, “Alexa, ask AHS for the hospital wait times”, “ask AHS for the emergency department wait times” or “ED wait times” or even “ask AHS for the latest news”.
So it’s pretty cool you know, it’s a great little skill that I don’t know about you, but it has been some occasions where I’ve had to take my kids to the emergency department or whoever it was and were wondering like, what’s the wait time?
Like, where should we go, where will it be the shortest? And this is a great way to check it out.
So there you go, hopefully you find that helpful and if you’re in Alberta, and like I said, I don’t think it’ll be long before it’s across the country. Talk to you tomorrow.
