Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #467
Hey there. So this is a very interesting rumor that I came across. And, keep that in mind, we don’t know if this is actually going to come to market, but there’s a rumor that Amazon is developing a device that is really a health and wellness product, that is going to be a wrist-worn gadget.
And, it’s a collaboration between Lab126, they’re the company that actually created the Echo smart speaker in conjunction with the Alexa voice software team. Now, this rumored device is designed to work with a smartphone app.
It has microphones paired with the software, so it can understand our emotional state from the sound of our voices. And then, this can advise the wearer on how to interact more effectively with others.
Now, there’s nothing new really about being able to discern emotional states from our voices. I’ve spoken about that previously and there are companies that are doing that.
But what’s interesting, is how this may influence what we do, and how this device actually gives us suggestions on what to do.
It can understand our emotional state from the sound of our voices.
Here’s an example that they state, “There is a patent filing that says the technology can detect an abnormal emotional condition. And, it shows a sniffling woman telling Alexa that she’s hungry.”
So if you think about that, if a woman is sniffling and she says to you, I’m hungry, what would it be a natural response? Maybe you’d offer some food, but you know, she’s sniffling.
So maybe you would offer chicken soup. And that’s exactly what the digital assistant or Alexa’s picking up on. It’s picking up that she has a cold, and then asks the woman if she would like a recipe specifically for chicken soup.
So that’s just one example of the way that this device could start to work. Now, of course with the way Amazon is putting all of its resources into Alexa, it is only natural to assume according to these rumors that Alexa will be incorporated in this device as well.

1. Open your Alexa app and click on the Menu button > Settings > Flash Briefing.
2. Click on “Add Content” and search for “Voice in Canada”.
3. Click on “Voice in Canada” and the Enable button.
