Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #78
Hey there, good morning, good afternoon, good evening whenever you’re listening to this hope you’re having a great day.
Today I want to tell you about a product that has just been announced by the tech company Linksys.
They have just announced that they are going to be releasing a brand new Dual band Mesh WiFi system in Canada and it’s planned to be released on June 8th.
So why am I telling you this on the Voice in Canada flash briefing. Well, first of all, in order to have a good experience with Alexa, we need to have good WiFi and up until now I’ve actually been using apples, airport WiFi routers and interestingly just recently apple announced that they are discontinuing that.
So, when my mind starts to die on me and I am noticing a little bit of a issue with WiFi at times in my home this might be something that is worthwhile looking into.
Here’s the deal, a Mesh WiFi system is basically a system if you think of it almost like a web of WiFi signals that are equally strong around your home.
There are different little hardware devices that you put in different places and they’re almost like little beacons that basically extend the WiFi system evenly throughout your home almost like blanketing your home with Wifi.
You can talk to your WiFi router and it can give you key information.

And the nice thing is that the signal does not get any weaker when you go from the first beacon or the first hub connected to your actual source of your Internet coming into your phone line or your TV line or whatever it is.
And when that gets transmitted to the second unit, the second beacon, if you want to call it that, there’s no drop in the WiFi signal.
So this is really good if you do have some space or your home is spread out, it’s great.
The other thing that really interests me about this particular device is that it is Alexa enabled, which means that it actually has some voice functions. So you can talk to your WiFi router and it can give you key information.
So some of the commands that linksys has said that it will understand are things like turn on or off you’re guest WiFi settings.
You can also ask it for the password to your guest WiFi network. So that’s great if you have guests that come over very often or you have a, you know, a bed and breakfast or airbnb that your guests can actually simply ask what is the network and what is the password for the network, which is great.
You can also actually have it tell you your password to your main network, which I wouldn’t recommend, but it says you can turn that off.
So anyway, this is a very interesting device. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of reviews it gets when it comes out.
It’ll come out in June, I’ll make sure to update you about any news and when it does actually come out.
But this sounds like it’s another step in the right direction for Alexa being everywhere and I think it’s great.
All right have a good day, we’ll talk again tomorrow.
