Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #91

So Alexa continues to make her way into all of our smart home devices. We know she is in lights, we know she’s in light switches.

We know that she is in home audio systems. We know she is expanding.

And today I want to tell you about a recent announcement by the lock company and I don’t know how to pronounce it.

It’s schlage schladge something like that. Schladge, they make locks.

They have announced that you can now unlock your doors using Alexa.

Previously this was a concern because obviously for security reasons, they wanted to make sure that this was done in a safe way.

And what they’ve done is they’ve created a product whereby you have to say a code to Alexa in order to first enable the feature to be able to unlock the door.

They have announced that you can now unlock your doors using Alexa.

Schlage Smart Locks

And then if a code is told to Alexa incorrectly three times, that feature gets disabled again.

And so you have to tell the code again in order to enable it. So this is the way to ensure that just not anybody is unlocking your door at home.

Hopefully the people that are talking to Alexa at home are not trying to open the door anyway for no particular reasons, but it is a little piece of added peace of mind.

The other thing you do need is you do need a separate piece of hardware in order to connect these locks to Alexa.

And that’s called the schlage or Schlage or whatever sense WiFi adapter.

And it’s kind of like a hub that allows you to control blocks. So if you’re at home automation and you want even more functionality, this may be worthwhile checking out.

And you can always check out other devices on the AlexainCanada.ca/Devices page where I give you a list of all of the recommended Alexa compatible devices.
