Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #364
Hey there, I hope you’re having a great Sunday. As you know, if you’ve been following along. On Sundays, I like to answer questions from the community. And today’s question comes from the Facebook community, which by the way, you can join AlexainCanada.ca/Community.
The question is from Christine Depuis Holleran, and she asks, “What’s your favorite smart light bulb and why?” Well, it’s a great question and this actually generated a lot of discussion in the group.
So I’m just gonna read you some of the comments here so you can get a sense of what are some of the most popular light bulbs. Stacy Wilcox says, “We use Genie. They were the perfect purchase.
They connected easily and so far so good” Jay Lucas says he’s trying to actually stay away from special bulbs and focus on the switches and the plugs instead. And, I actually tend to agree with him.
I think that when you switch out the switches, it gives you the most control, because if you only switch out the bulb and then you turn off the switch, then there’s no power going to the bulb, and you actually lose the ability to control it through your smart speaker and so on.
You need to have the power on all the time, and if you switch up the switch, I think that’s the best way to do it.
When you switch out the switches, it gives you the most control.

Gordon Dick says he has Phillips Hue Bulbs. He said no issues at all. I agree, “Phillips, you are great except that you need to have a hub” unless you’ve got the newer Echo Plus devices that have a built-in hub.
Some people say they like the sengled bulbs, but I’ll tell you what, I personally like the TP-Link bulbs and switches. I think they are great. I’ve had no problems with them at all. They work very well with Alexa, and there you go.
So lots of different opinions here. For sure there’s no shortage of great bulbs out there. If you want to read a little bit more about smart home lighting and Alexa, you can always go to my podcast episode and my blog post, which you can find at AlexainCanada.ca/17 and there you’ll see a review of how I set up my own smart home lighting.
Okay. I hope you find that helpful and I look forward to chatting with you again tomorrow. Oh, and by the way, if you do decide to buy any smart home lighting devices, I am an affiliate for Amazon. You can always access all the links at AlexainCanada.ca/Amazon
If you choose to purchase something through that link, I do earn a small commission. There is absolutely no extra cost to you, but if you choose to do that, obviously I’m very appreciative of that. Okay, have a great day and I will talk to you tomorrow.
