Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #327
Alright, so today I want to give you a little tip. If you are adding some type of smart home device, this is a feature that is in the Alexa mobile phone app, and it’s been there for a little while, but if you’re not aware of it, it can make things a little bit more streamlined, a little bit more efficient for you if you are adding a new smart home device.
Essentially, what Amazon has done, is they have tried to create a central place where you can go to find the app that you need to add this particular smart home device, and to have Alexa discover the smart home device.
Simply what you do, is you go into your Alexa app, you click on the menu icon at the top and you click on add device. Then you’re going to see some icons for very common devices that include an actual Amazon Echo device, Philips Hue bulbs, Kasa, Tuya.
So you can click on those, but then it’s got a list of all devices, and it makes it really easy, whether you’re adding an Echo, a light, a plug, a switch, a hub, a camera, a thermostat, a lock, it goes on and on and on.
Although it’s not a major feature, it is something that creates a nicer user experience.

And what you do is, you click on the one that you want to add, and then you’re going to see a number of your brand, you click on the brand, and all of a sudden, you get a link to take you directly to the app that you need for that particular brand and that particular smart home device. So you don’t have to go searching for the app anymore.
You can do it that way, but this is a much more convenient, much more streamlined way of doing it. So, obviously, Amazon…, what’s the purpose of this? It’s to make things as simple as possible for you to set up when you are using your smart home devices and Alexa.
So, although it’s not a major feature, it is something that creates a nicer user experience in my opinion. And I think it’s great. So, if you are adding a new smart home device, try it out that way and see if you’d like it a little bit better.
Alright, let’s chat tomorrow and I hope you have a wonderful day.
