Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #228
Alright, so Amazon keeps on announcing things at a furious pace and they have yet another announcement that just occurred in the last day or two, and that is they are finally bringing the Fire TV with Alexa control to Canada. I know a lot of people have been asking about this. So I want to give you just a little bit of detail about this.
There’ll be more news coming out about this over the next little while, but essentially what they have said is that they are now launching the Alexa Voice Service with Fire TV and they’ve introduced a new lineup of Fire TV devices. So this includes actual TVs and they partnered with Toshiba. These are going to be available through Best Buy and through Amazon.
They have announced two sorts of classes of models. A Toshiba 4K Ultra High Def Smart TV which is gonna be available in 43, 50 and 55 inches, and a Toshiba HD Smart TV, which is going to be available in 32-inch, 43-inch and 49-inch sizes.
And obviously, this is going to have Alexa built in. On top of that, they’ve also announced that they are launching the Fire TV stick 4K and that includes an Alexa voice remote. So, you’ll be able to hold a little remote, talk to Alexa and control streaming video to your TV, and that is listed at CAD 69.99.

And, on top of that, you can also buy the Alexa voice remote to power your compatible TV and any equipment if you have something that is compatible with that, all through your voice. And so for just the Alexa voice remote that is listed at $39.99. So, this is really exciting. It brings out a whole bunch of new Alexa voice control to your home entertainment, and it, I mean, Amazon is just everywhere these days it seems. And, it’s very interesting for sort of an editorial perspective here.
Amazon and Google, they’ve got very different strategies, obviously. Amazon is really just trying to be everywhere and they’ve got quite a pace that they’re setting for the other manufacturers of other smart devices to keep up with them.
Anyway, it’s very interesting to see where this is going to go over the next little while, and, I’m looking forward to trying out the Fire TV as well. I will have links to the Fire TV products.
