Hey there and welcome to today’s episode of the Voice In Canada flash briefing, so I’ve got another news announcement for you just in time for Black Friday, and, all of the great shopping that I’m sure a lot of you are going to be doing. Just as an FYI, tomorrow we’ll be highlighting some of the incredible Black Friday deals that are available here in Canada, but for now Amazon and Microsoft just announced a partnership that allows you to use Skype to make some calls through your Echo devices.

This is pretty cool. A number of levels. First of all, it just shows that Microsoft and Amazon really are working together to strengthen each other’s brands, and I think this is a very smart move, for both of them actually, but in particular for Amazon, because it’s a way for them to increase the reach of their Alexa voice service, particularly because they don’t have their own mobile phones.

So I think this is a really smart move for Amazon, but in addition, it’s just a great service, and now people that use Skype can simply make calls through their Alexa devices.

And of course, if you have a video device such as the Spot, or the Show, and this works on either version of the Show if you have the older one. Well, there’s only one version of the Spot, but if you use those as well, then you can make video calls.

The way you do it is you go to your Alexa app, you go to “Settings”, “Communication”, “Skype”, and you sign in with your Skype account, and then you are good to go.
